Poppy Formula
Poppy Formula is a smart infant formula machine that produces a ready to serve, warm, mixed bottle of formula milk. The appliance can be operated through the Wink app, relying on sensors throughout the product for feedback. Sensors are able to determine the amount of powder remaining in the hopper, if the water tank is running low, and if there is a bottle present. When powder is running low the appliance is able to reorder formula through the Amazon Dash replenishment system.
• As a key contributor to the team I was in charge of designing and implementing powder level sensing and mixing funnel geometry
• Utilized arduino to test various sensor combinations and layouts
• Created test rigs and prototypes to dial in flow rates and test funnel designs
• Interfaced with vendor to facilitate mass production
• Demonstrated and presented product at various sales meetings
• Challenges included child safety, cleaning, thorough mixing, sticky powder, and dosing accuracy
